The Story of ALEKS PPL
The idea of using ALEKS as a placement tool began in 2007 with a partnership between ALEKS and the University of Illinois. After piloting ALEKS Prep for Calculus as a course placement tool for Calculus I, the data showed a direct correlation between ALEKS assessment scores and course outcomes.
For the next several years, ALEKS partnered with a variety of institutions to research and design a program that could assess knowledge across a broad spectrum of topics and allow students the opportunity to refresh and prepare for their math courses. Thanks to those dedicated research partnerships, students at 2- and 4-year institutions today are able to take advantage of ALEKS PPL. This map shows where PPL is being used at 2 and 4 year schools across the country over the last few years.
Our data and analytics team is dedicated to helping institutions by evaluating ALEKS PPL efficacy to inform policies and enhance the placement experience. We work with institutions to define cut scores in alignment with their curriculum and build a strong partnership to ensure the best student outcomes.
