Partners In Teaching provides substantive instructional support for teachers of basic writing and freshman composition, especially newer instructors.

Our two listservs, Teaching Composition and Teaching Basic Writing, address issues of pedagogy in theory and in practice. Their goal is to bring together senior members of the college composition community with newer members -- junior faculty, adjuncts, and teaching assistants. Each month, major figures in the fields of composition and basic writing take turns leading discussions on issues of importance to people in the profession.

Topics discussed on Teaching Composition have included Landing a Job, led by Kay Halasek of Ohio State University, Teaching Poetry in FY Comp, led by Art Young of Clemson University, and Creating Writing Assignments, led by Michael Flanigan of the University of Oklahoma. Teaching Basic Writing will launch in Fall, 2001, with planned contributions by Linda Adler-Kassner, Victor Villanueva and Susan Webber, Tom Reynolds, Terry Collins, and others. Chris Anson of North Carolina State University is the moderator for Teaching Composition; Laura Gray Rosendale for Teaching Basic Writing. We enthusiastically invite you to submit your own ideas for topics and potential contributors to these listservs.

These services are free. Please check out Teaching Composition and Teaching Basic Writing now, and join the discussion!
